Abstract

In principle, the cultural da'wah of the Muhammadiyah model does not contradict the spirit and principles of Islamic Da'wah proclaimed in the Muqaddimah of Muhammadiyah's Articles of Association. Namely, the Islamic da'wah model that does not only prioritize verbal and exemplary aspects in order to understand and practice the teachings of Islam in public life, but is also oriented towards transformative-participatory liberation of the ummah on the basis of tauhid values and noble human values. . It's just that, in its journey, the Muhammadiyah Cultural Da'wah model has experienced ups and downs of priorities and orientation in terms of the strategies and methods it chooses, according to the demographic location, the socio-cultural situation, and the level of knowledge of the da'wah community. If in the early days of Muhammadiyah's establishment, its Cultural Da'wah model emphasized the aspects of the faith and social morality of its community, then in subsequent times it emphasized its legality-fiqhiah aspects. Then, in the current era, the spirit of Cultural Da'wah seems to be more directed towards the dimensions of the creed and social morality by adding a modern Sufistic touch in it without leaving its tajdîd spirit which is transformative-participatory.
